KYC and KYB compliance for Indian NBFCs

Regulatory requirements explained by the engineers who implement them.

Regulatory explainers for teams building customer onboarding under Indian law, written to be read alongside the primary source rather than instead of it. Each page states which regulation it covers, links the RBI circular, CERSAI notification or gazette text it derives from, and explains what the requirement means for a system you have to build and operate — which records must be captured, which must be retained and for how long, what has to be re-verified and when, and where the obligations differ between an NBFC, a bank and a payment aggregator. We write these because the gap between a circular and an implementation is where most onboarding programmes lose time, and because the summaries circulating elsewhere are often a year out of date with no indication of when they were last checked. Every page here carries a review date and a named reviewer, and is re-checked on a fixed cadence rather than when someone happens to notice it has aged. None of it is legal advice. It is our engineering reading of the requirement, sourced so you can verify each claim yourself and take the specifics to your compliance counsel.
